Training courses
IH BET 1 (Business English Teaching) The International House Business English Teaching Level 1 course (BET 1) is a 50 hour course consisting of 30 hours of input and 20 hours of homework (reading or action research) tasks, plus a post-course reflection. It is aimed at either newly-qualified teachers (post-CELTA/IHCTL) or more experienced teachers who are new to teaching Business English. Successful completion of the course will earn participants an IHWO certificate and also prepare them to take the LCCI FTBE exam (London Chamber of Commerce and Industry Further Certificate for Teachers of Business English) should they wish further accreditation.
The course has three strands: Basic Business Awareness; Professional Skills; Methodology & Materials, aiming to raise participants awareness of business topics, dealing with students as clients, and teaching business language within a business context.
IH CYL (Certificate in Teaching Young Learners) The main aim of this course is to prepare teachers for working with Young Learners. Usually, these teachers will already have had some form of pre-service training in the teaching of ELT to adults (e.g. IHC/CELTA) but some may not have had previous experience of teaching Young Learners.
The course's main objective is to introduce trainees to, and help them (re) evaluate and (re) consider the main principles involved in teaching Young Learners English Language in a typical language school context.
The course includes sessions on Classroom Management; Child Development; Teaching Adolescents amongst others.
INSETT (In Service Teacher Training) A dedicated, fortnightly schedule of training for teachers working in all Apollo centres, to ensure ongoing development. Topics are chosen from identified needs, as well as consultation with teachers. Examples of recent sessions include
Pronunciation, Error Correction, Games & Activities with Young Learners, and Using the internet in class.
CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults) Teaching English to speakers of other languages can be a highly rewarding career, offering you the chance to live and work abroad. You will need an internationally recognised teaching qualification, and CELTA — highly regarded throughout the world — gives you the skills you need and will make it easier to get a teaching job anywhere.
CELTA is an initial qualification for people with little or no previous teaching experience and opens up a whole world of exciting teaching opportunities.
The CELTA:

- gives you hands-on teaching practice
- builds your confidence.
There are five main units of learning:
- Learners and teachers, and the teaching and learning context
- Language analysis and awareness
- Language skills: reading, listening, speaking and writing
- Planning and resources for different contexts
- Developing teaching skills and professionalism.
