Admission and testing requirements vary from school to school, so it is important to carefully read the information available from the school to which you are applying. For primary and secondary schools and junior colleges, the academic year begins in January and is divided into four school terms or two semesters. State universities generally begin their terms in January or April, but there is some variation. Private schools usually have four intakes a year: in January/February, April, July and September. It is important to know when school terms begin so that you can plan the timing of your application accordingly. For university study and study at some private schools you should plan to be in Singapore at least two weeks before the start of your courses. Secondary Schools (High school), Junior Colleges and Centralised Institutions.
Admission to publicly funded schools is strictly based on the availability of vacancies. If there is a vacancy, you will need to pass a placement test conducted by the school, as well as submit your academic records and a completed application form from the school. Contact your preferred school for additional information on admissions requirements. Upon successful admission to the school, the Ministry of Education's (MOE) Pupil Placement Section will send your parents or guardian a Letter of Donation, for a donation of S$1,000 (US$ 660) for every two years that you study in Singapore. This donation is in addition to any tuition fees required by the school. Foreign System Schools (International schools) have their own requirements for admission, so it is best to check with the individual school for information. Local Universities, Polytechnics and Institute of Technical Education (ITE)
Publicly funded universities, polytechnics and ITEs often require prospective students to take a placement test or an interview, in addition to achieving certain scores on the TOEFL exam and demonstrating a high GPA. Detailed admissions requirements can be obtained from the individual institution. You can apply and check the progress of your application online for most Singapore universities and institutions. Private Schools. Students wishing to study at a private school must take school’s placement test, as well as submit requested academic and personal information as part of the application process. Usually students take English classes at the school prior to beginning academic studies. Before applying to a private school, you should check that it is registered with and approved by the Ministry of Education.
