Singapore is a tropical island with a warm and humid summer-like climate all year round. The heaviest rainfall is during the monsoon season, from November to January. The temperature is fairly consistent throughout the year: the average temperature in January is 26ºC and in July is 29ºC, and the average annual humidity is 84.3%. Light summer clothing is recommended, as is a light sweater or jacket for overly air-conditioned indoor places. Some educational institutions have a minimum dress regulation, such as no shorts or slippers in lecture theatres. Although students generally wear casual clothes, people in Singapore like to dress nicely for social events. Students at primary and secondary schools as well as junior colleges have to wear uniforms which should be purchased before the commencement of classes.
