Canada is well known for wintry weather and snow, but in most parts of the country there are four distinct seasons and daytime summer temperatures can rise as high as 35°C in some parts.
While moderate temperatures are the norm in Spring and Autumn months, summers can be hot and dry on the prairies, hot and humid in the central areas and milder on the coasts. Winters are generally quite cold. Low temperatures of -25°C are not uncommon and there tends to be snow in most parts of the country, although on the west coast, in cities such as Vancouver and Victoria, winter weather is milder and rainy. In spite of cold winters, Canadians stay warm thanks to an infrastructure of heated houses, cars and public transportation systems. Some cities have also installed walkways to and from buildings in schools.
